Situated in the picturesque Adelaide Hills, the design of this garden needed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. By capturing views through to the neighbouring vineyard while working with the steep sloping site, we created a garden suitable for a young family.

Designed by Mountford Williamson Architecture, this new home takes advantage of the unique site by positioning itself with minimal glazing visible from the road. Once inside, the house reveals views through large windows capturing the tension between the native landscape and the manicured vineyard beyond. This tension is repeated through the designed landscape with a series of long stone walls that draw your eye through the space and anchor the design; softened by mixed foliage and grasses that move in the breeze. The ‘L’ shape form of the house wraps itself around the entertaining areas and pool terrace creating a relaxed and protected space.

The calmness and simplicity of the site and the form of the architecture meant that we approached our design of the garden areas with restraint. This minimalist approach resulted in a home and garden that fit seamlessly into the landscape.

"Choice of materials is key in creating a feeling and a style. We choose materials that are tactile and create texture and warmth, but are also of a quality that elevates the garden from a space rarely used to one that is treasured."
