Port Willunga House South Australia
Our primary goal was to create a garden that was relaxed and open; inviting conversations with friends walking by; but also provided enclosure and privacy when spending time with the family.
Working around a new holiday house designed by Mountford Williamson Architecture, the long narrow site allowed the house form to be a simple pavilion, punctuated with courtyard areas for outdoor living and entertaining. The challenge for us was to not let the long driveway running between the house and boundary dominate the view and take attention away from the house.
We overcame this by blurring the edge between the garden and driveway. Gravel extends the entire width between the deck and boundary fence with planting and canopy trees punctuating the gravel, in keeping with the style and feel of a coastal garden. Undulating mounds of clipped foliage contrast against soft grasses and sprawling succulents, creating the perfect seaside garden.
